When you choose a domain name, you are choosing something people will type, share and screenshot for years. Small mistakes compound.
01 / NOTE
Keep it short and typeable.
A short domain reduces typos. Furthermore, it fits inside email signatures, ad copy and printed materials without breaking.
Aim for two syllables where possible, and avoid hyphens. Hyphens are hard to say out loud and easy to forget.
02 / NOTE
Match the brand name where you can.
Ideally, your domain is exactly your brand name. If the .com is gone, do not force a strange spelling to get it. That path leads to permanent confusion.
Instead, look at a related extension such as .co, .io or a country-level domain like .nl or .de. Our names and domains tool checks these in one pass.
03 / NOTE
Think about search and voice.
Say the domain aloud. Then imagine hearing it in a podcast ad. If a listener would struggle to type it correctly, keep looking.
Additionally, avoid words that sound like other words. Numbers and creative spellings usually cause more support requests than they save characters.
04 / NOTE
Protect the obvious variants.
Once you land on a domain, register the common misspellings and the .com if you did not start there. This is cheap insurance against typos and imitators.
Then point them all to your main site. Consequently, a mistyped URL still reaches you rather than a competitor.
05 / NOTE
Connect the domain to the brand quickly.
Do not leave a new domain parked. Even a single-page site with the offer, a photo and a contact route is better than a placeholder.
Our website builder uses your brand identity directly, so the first version already looks like the rest of your services and touchpoints.
